A Cisco study on employee attitudes toward returning to the office in India reveals that while 76% of employees respond positively to their organization's return-to-office mandate, 82% express a desire to return to the office at least a few times per week. The analysis of 554 public companies that employ a collective 26.7 million people found that "fully flexible" firms which are either completely remote or allow employees to choose when they come to an office increased sales 21% between 2020 and 2022, on an industry-adjusted basis.
Diversified conglomerate RPG already allows its staff the flexibility to avoid commuting to office on days with heavy traffic or unreliable public transportation.
"As we move to strengthen our return to office (RTO) approach and hybrid work model, I urge you to work from office for a minimum of 10 days in the month, starting Nov 20, 2023," read an email sent by one of the vice presidents to employees in the band 5 and 6 in select verticals. Work’s main issue is no longer the future of inanimate bricks and mortar of offices — significant economically though this is to city centers, commutes and the real-estate industry. Nor is it about the alternative “space” of the much-vaunted metaverse, which Wired Magazine describes as so vague that if you replace it with cyberspace “ninety percent of the time, the meaning won’t substantially change.”
